Why do we use isomalt?

Why do we use isomalt?

Why do we use isomalt for our mooncakes?

Our flagship no sugar added mooncakes are a delicious, healthy, and attractive alternative to traditional mooncakes due to its lower sugar content and sweetness. We achieved this by using Isomalt, a sugar substitute.

Here's why we chose isomalt over traditional sugar:

 1. Lower calories

Isomalt contains half the calories of regular table sugar.

Regular sugar contains around 4 kcal/g, while isomalt contains 2 kcal/g.

This makes it beneficial for those who are watching their daily calorie intake but still desire a sweet treat!

 2. Lower GI

Isomalt has a GI Index that is 1/30 of the GI index of white sugar

Isomalt has a GI index of 2, compared to regular sugar which averages at around a GI index of 65.

This lower GI makes it a better alternative for people who needs to control their blood sugar and GI index.

3. Half the sweetness!

Isomalt has half the sweetness of sugar

Isomalt has a relative sweetness of 0.54 compared to sugar.

While we do like sweets, sometimes the sweetness can be overwhelming. We chose to use isomalt so that our mooncakes still carry a sweetness but will not be overwhelmingly sweet

4. Doesn't cause tooth decay

Isomalt doesn't cause tooth decay

We all know how eating sweet foods can cause tooth decay, but unlike sugar, isomalt will not cause tooth decay.

By using Isomalt,  our mooncakes becomes a healthier altenative for people who wish to keep the tradition yet are more health conscious or just those who can't stand the overwhelming sweetness of regular mooncakes.
